How we help

One approach, many ways in.

Every service below is built on the same thing: understanding the horse first, then doing the practical work well. Pick what you need — a trim, a training block, a clinic place — and tap the button on it to message Ray directly.

Farriery

Balanced feet, sound movement.

Barefoot trims, shoeing and honest hoof assessment — measured, not guessed.

More about our farriery

A front hoof photographed square on a levelled block, with the dorsal wall, coronary band and pastern angles measured and the base split 50:50 about the point of balance

Hoof Assessment — Basic

Your horse's feet photographed square on a levelled block and actually measured — wall and pastern angles, coronary band, and how the base sits about the point of balance. You get the numbers and a plain-language read of what they mean for the next trim or shoeing.

A page from a comprehensive hoof report: all four feet photographed on the block with their angles measured, the two front solar views beneath, and the written findings below

Every figure in the report comes off images taken like this one — square to the foot, on a levelled block, referenced to the ground plane. Shoot it the same way next time and the two are genuinely comparable.

Farriery · the written report

Hoof Assessment — Comprehensive

Everything in the basic assessment, and then the part that takes the time: a written report that sets your horse's measured geometry alongside the published reference figures, grades every option by how well the evidence actually supports it, and puts them in the order worth doing them.

  • Your numbers against published ideals. Palmar and plantar angles, pedal bone angle, column alignment, base proportions and coronary band angle — each one measured, and each one shown against the figure the literature gives, front and hind.
  • Options in priority order, honestly graded. Every recommendation carries its evidence strength. Where the research cuts both ways, the report says so and shows both sides rather than picking the convenient one.
  • What to expect, and when. Which changes happen the same day, which take a shoeing cycle or two, and which take a full hoof-wall replacement — with the evidence grade on each.
  • A protocol for the next one. Same blocks, same stance, same measuring template, same reference plane. Comparison only means anything if the method is repeatable, so the method is written down.
  • The references, listed. The last report ran to nineteen — journal papers, case-control studies and practitioner sources — so your vet can go and read the same material.
First priority Strong Moderate Weak Expert consensus
Written as a farrier-side working document so that your vet and your farrier are reading the same numbers. It describes measured geometry and published reference figures — it is not a veterinary diagnosis, and every clinical decision stays with the attending vet.

Assessing where a horse is in its education

The Compass Assessment Tools
